Just For Today

Today is Day ten of the April Blogging Challenge and the letter J. I have chosen Just For Today as my topic today. This is important to those in recovery, living recovered and for those of us on this side of addiction. I can't repeat yesterday, tomorrow isn't promised so I will find some inspiration, some peace some serenity if only just for today.

Some of us wonder if we will ever know peace? Will we ever know serenity? Will things ever be different? Although they will never be

Walking The Twelve Steps

It is no big secret to those who know me personally that I am the mother of a child who was addicted to drugs. He is several months into his recovery from heroin and opioids, Xanax and whatever else he could get into his veins compliments of the local street pharmacy.

As we all know who live it, this is a daily struggle to someone brand new in recovery. They wake up every day and have to think of ways of changing their behavior until they fall asleep at night. For many, this is a daily struggle which is why having a great

Eight Principles of Recovery and Spiritual Healing

Blessed are those poor in spirit. For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

I realize that I am not God or any Higher Power. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendencies to do the wrong things and that my life is unmanageable without a Higher Power.

Blessed are those who mourn, they shall be comforted.

I believe that God and my Higher Power do exist. I matter. Only He has the power to help me recover.

Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the kingdom of God.

I consciously choose to commit all of my life and my will to the care and control of my Higher Power.

Blessed are those that hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.

I openly examine and confess all my faults to myself and to God.

Blessed are those who are merciful, for they will obtain mercy.

I voluntarily submit every change in my life that my Higher Power wants to make in my life. I humbly ask to remove all of my character flaws.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

I evaluate all of my relationships. I offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for any harm I have done to others except when to do so would harm them or others.

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God.

I reserve a daily time with my Higher Power for self examination and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake for they shall inherit the kingdom of God.

I yield myself to God and my Higher Power to be used to bring good to others, both by example and by my words.

Challenge Myself: Day #79 Take A Stretch Break

Today is Day #79 of our Nar Anon Group Just For Today Challenge. I am also integrating the Live Happy into my Challenge. The Live Happy Challenge for today is to take a ten minute stretch break during your busy day.

At work we do stretching exercises every morning. We are on our feet for ten to twelve hours so it often helps stretching our legs and back.

The book says,

Taking The Steps To Heal

Many may not realize but when your life and family has been consumed by addiction we too have to heal. I had truly thought by now I would be able to cross this step- Step Four- off of my list. You know that one. Making a moral inventory of ourselves and our life.
The past month has been one crazy ride on the addiction

Challenge Myself: Day #78 Bring Energy Into The Room

Today is Day #78 of our Nar Anon Group Just For Today Challenge. I am also integrating the Live Happy into my Challenge. The Live Happy Challenge for today is about bringing energy into your personal space using Feng Shui.

I am learning Feng Shui. While at the dollar stores I have noticed the table top water fountains on their shelves but currently don't have one in my home. After reading, I will have to rethink and purchase a table top fountain. I have a sound machine.

The book says,

Put a water fountain in your home office, entry, or family room to influence the flow of positive energy throughout the house.

Consider placing a round or oval fountain in the wealth corner of your home. Check a feng shui bagua chart for optimal placement. The bagua map can be found in nearly every book about feng shui or in Asian import stores.

Let the gentle sound of flowing water remind you of the blessings of all kinds of abundance, wealth, and peace flowing in your life.

As much as I have read about addiction spirituality we need it for both sides of addiction; those with addiction disorders as well as those who love someone who is abusing drugs. It helps in healing. No matter how you practice the word Higher Power means something different to everyone. It can mean God, Our Creator, the universe and nature. Spirituality helps us connect and brings peace and tranquility.

Just For Today: I am grateful for all the blessings in my life right now.

There Is A Season

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?

10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

I'm Under Construction

I started thinking about Step Four of NarAnon on July 10th. That was the day we took our son to Huntington, WV.

The thoughts about that step didn't really start to sink in until the ride back home. I don't know it started with peace. Peace that I haven't felt in a very long time. It started with the word recovery. For once our son would know the steps to real recovery.

While I know he is dealing with Step One and admitting he is

Update: I am Addicted To The Addict

We are twelve years into our sons heroin addiction. We've used words like addict, addiction for a very long time.

I just recently realized that I am addicted to our addict. I concentrate all my energy and focus all my attention on words like controlling the addict and fixing the addict. Seeking everyday ways to

Grateful For The Storms

Today, we once again had some thunderstorms roll through the area. I am not a big fan of thunderstorms raging in the skies. I find myself lying real still and counting the seconds in between each crash of thunder.

There are also storms of life.

I am reminded that if we spend too much time chasing the storms that rage around us we will miss the sunshine.

I am waiting for these storms to pass.

Rules For Life

We have but one life what will we do with it?

Challenge Myself: Day #35 Finding Purpose In Your Life

Today is Day #35 of our Nar Anon Group Just For Today Challenge. I am also integrating the Live Happy Challenge into my Just for Today and daily routine. The Live Happy Challenge for today is about finding purpose in your life and to write a mission statement of your life.

It is so funny how this challenge goes a little a long with Step #4 of NarAnon and how we are to search ourselves and make a fearless moral inventory of our lives.

The book says,

Challenge Myself: Day#31 A Giving Heart

Today is Day #31 of our Nar Anon Group Just For Today Challenge. I am also integrating the Live Happy into my Challenge. The Live Happy Challenge for today is to help your favorite giving from your heart to charity.

The book says,

Let us continue to give abundantly. That which we are willing

Want to live a more virtuous life, but you're not the type to do spontaneous acts of kindness or generosity?

Then think of your favorite charitable cause, put together a list of charities that work on
