When I say addiction has pummeled my family and left the battle scars to prove it, I do not exaggerate. I often set and wonder about the generation of my kids. These are commonly referred to as, the Gen Y kids.
I know that many including those in my own family argue about drug addiction being a disease. There is so much scientific information out now as to a link in our DNA. It's commonly referred to as a familial disease or cycle. It is often passed down through the generations.
We have a son over five and a half hours away in a strange town we have had to take another step backwards in the hopes of recovery for our son. He has a long way to go.
I have to Let Go and Let God!!!
We have another son who has battled some addiction. Another son who has had a problem with alcohol. Both of them hate when I talk about it for some reason. Our daughter has battled with alcohol and has tried and used drugs.
I think of the word choices. Free will allows us to make our own choices- good or bad- right or wrong. In making those choices we also have to take the responsibility of accepting the choices and continue on that same path or making a change and to want recovery.
Sometimes those choices we make have huge consequences especially a drug like heroin (and others) which grips a person just trying it for the first time.
I know we taught our kids right from wrong. I know we talked about the dangers of drugs with them when they were growing up. When they go out to meet society on their own just because we think we taught them everything doesn't necessarily mean squat in today's world.
We on this side feel as if we are damned if we do; damned if we don't and often we feel as if we are trapped in making decisions and choices ourselves.
I am trying very hard to trust in my Creator that things will indeed get better.
The Devil At the Door is... Heroin. Heroin doesn't discriminate. It destroys lives and families and is robbing our community. These pages are the personal Chronicles of loving a child who uses and abuses heroin and opiates. You can also find what I hope to be helpful links, info and resources as well as sometimes whatever is on my mind at the moment... even an occasional venting!
